Description

Morgan Le Fay, Enemy of Arthur of Camelot, 90mm scale miniature.

Morgan Le Fay was most famous as the ultimate adversary to King Arthur of Camelot. Morgan has had many character variations in these legendary stories including as a Healer and an enchantress. Morgan Le Fay was the daughter of Igraine and Gorlois and half-sister of Arthur. She was not as some believe, the mother of Mordred (her sister Morgause was), the man who destroyed Camelot. Morgan hated Arthur for his purity and plotted with her lover, Sir Accolon, to steal both Excalibur and the British throne. Her enmity towards Guinevere has its origin in the Vulgate Lancelot, where Morgan is having an affair with Guiomar, Guinevere's cousin, and Guinevere puts an end to it. Morgan gains her revenge by betraying the affair between Guinevere and Lancelot to Arthur. Despite the motif of Morgan's enmity towards Arthur and Guinevere, she is also presented as one of the women who takes Arthur in a barge to Avalon to be healed after the battle with Mordred at the Battle of Camlann.

With soft grey eyes she gloomed & glowered;
With soft red lips she sang a song:
What knight might gaze upon her face,
Nor fare along?

For all her looks were full of spells,
And all her words, of sorcery;
And in some way they seemed to say,
"Oh, come with me!

"Oh, come with me! oh, come with me!
Oh, come with me, my love, Sir Kay!"--
How should he know the witch, I trow,
Morgan le Fay?

The figures are painted by experienced Irish artists and were designed by internationally famous miniature designer Alan Dickinson.
