    Metal Hob

I was impressed with the price and ease of use it did smoke like billy-oh for the first hour which I was worried about but after reading here I see that normal. I've used it for all sorts already I'm hoping it will last a long time I do think the switch is bit cheap and cheerful but if its used carefully it should be ok.

    Metal melter

I was expecting a piece of kit that would at least show the temperature setting. This is just a domestic single ring electric cooking stove with 6 settings 1 to 6. No indication of what setting is appropriate for melting metal and no indication of what temperatures each of the settings are to keep the metal at an appropriate temperature. So rather disappointed.

Response from Lars, MD of Prince August.
Hobby casting is not a high tech pastime and everything is based on experience. The plate is thermostatically controlled and shuts off at 320c. This is also perfect pouring temperature for our alloys. Just turn on the plate on full, put a ladle on top and wait for 10min. You can see the metal is getting ready when it is changing colour and the surface is becoming flat. If you are producing an army, use a second ladle for melting the metal and another one for pouring. Pour the metal from one ladle to another to make sure the pouring metal is 300-320. You can also test the temperature with our very high tech wooden metal tester sticks. They are very primitive but they work. Happy casting, Lars.

    Standard Hotplate

This hotplate worked well for me, it did the job required and I would recommend it. Be aware it smoked slightly from underneath when it was first turned on, but after a few minutes this stopped and it worked fine.

The smoking would be normal as the hotplate would burn off rust treatment oil.

    The standard hot plate 1.5mw

A Very good product, small and compact it does the job well for all metals. But mine broke,(the switch) after only 7 months lght use,(6 hours a week). I have been offered a refund + postage, And I was able to buy a new one quickly.

    No more nagging!, Great!

This is handy for casting away from you kitchen, and I no longer have to get interrupted at meal times, or worry about spilling metal on our house cooker.
Stuck it in my workshop in the shed and can cast away peacefully all afternoon. Bliss.
for Model Metal, you don't have to have it up full blast either. For the other stuff, well it just takes a bit more time at full heat.
