Description

Molybdomancy is a form of divination using metal and water.

Fortune telling in metal is a passtime which used to be practised by the vikings and the celts hundreds of years ago. Today is a fun party activity. It is great fun to compare your metal creation with other people. This is how it is done:

  • Hold one ball of metal in your fist for 15 second to transfer your vibes into the metal.
  • Melt one ball of white metal on a cooker or a gas torch. Adjust the cooker to high.
  • Prepare a bowl with at least 1 liter of water.
  • Pour the metal quickly into the water.  It is your hand and the vibes of the metal which creates the fanciful shape.
  • Take the metal out of the water and use our interpretation guide to tell your fortune.
  • You can remelt the metal over and over again. Just be careful to have the ladle empty of metal as metal and water can splatter.

 The Molybdomancy Party Divination Kit contains:

  • Two Casting Ladles.
  • 30 balls of White Metal.
  • 10 plastic bags (to hold the resulting castings).
  • Interpretation guide.
    • This is not a toy and should be used under adult supervision.
    • Always wash your hands after using this metal.
    • Keep away from food.
    • Pour the water used in the sink. Do not drink!
    • Contains 50%+ lead, tin, antimony. Prolonged contact can be harmful.
    • Melting point 230c. Hot metal will give severe burns.
    • Dispose of scrap metal accoring to local recycling rules.

Lead pouring gives you the chance to re-enact the German New Years Eve tradition of fortune telling the future by "lead pouring" (Bleigießen). According to custom, diviners melt a small lead figurine or object in a tablespoon, then pour the molten material into a bowl or bucket of water to see the patterns it makes. You read the future in the shapes that the lead forms in the water, like tea leaves at the bottom of a cup. For example: If the lead curls into a ball, expect good fortune; if it falls into an anchor shape, look for help in need; but metal freezing into the form of a cross casts the specter of death. The app lets you select a virtual lead ingot, watch it melt and pour it into the water onscreen, and see the random shapes it forms. What does the New Year hold for you?

In der Silvester-Nacht
wird das Blei zum Schmelzen gebracht.
Es wird gekippt in Wasser, kalt und klar;
rate, was stellen die Figuren dar?
Schau sie an, so wie sie sind;
rätst die Gestalt du nicht geschwind.
Halt sie hinters Licht,
das Schattenbild dir mehr verspricht.
Kommt es dir nicht in den Sinn,
schau auf dieses Büchlein hin.
Es sagt dir frank und frei,
so allerlei...!
