Blood Berets - Mutant Chronicles - Techno - Fantasy Conflict.
They say that when even the corporate armies aren't enough, you call on the elite. You call on the Blood Berets. They've seen it all; the swamps, the sand, the arctic wastes. But there was something about the jungle....
The deafening quiet, made more so by the thick foliage overhead, pressed upon the berets as they methodically worked their way through the jungle. Other than the occasional cautious 'blip' by the scanner, the berets were nothing more than camouflaged whispers.
Then it all broke loose. Horrendous beast-screams ripped through the air as the scanners went wild. Undead legion troops burst through the growth and attacked with inhuman rage. Weapons hummed into action and rapid-fire bursts leveled jungle and enemy alike as the first of many ferocious fire-fights began. The Blood Berets had arrived.
BLOOD BERETS: Elite force comprised of the very best soldiers of the Imperial Corporation. All are hand-picked, chosen on the basis of extra-ordinary qualities. They all have skills and characteristics widely surpassing that of ordinary troops.
NEPHARITES: The most powerful creatures in the ranks of the Dark Legion. They act as officers in the army of darkess. The evil lieutenants are ranked with the Nepharites Overlords as the supreme rulers. Some Nepharites have a great understanding of the Dark Symetry and wield its powers in the battle against mankind, while others concentrate on purely physical destruction.
How to play the game:
Blood Berets is a game of skirmish fighting between an elite squad of the Imperial Corporation and an undead force of Legionnaires and Nepharite Overlords of the Dark Legion. The players each maneuver one group of plastic figures across a game board made up of nine terrain boards.
The rules are designed to teach you a step at a time, beginning with a chapter on moving and shooting, before you play the first mission. Then you will learn rules specific to the jungles of Venus, and play the second mission. The last part of the rules, the advanced section, deals with features you can add to the basic game. After that you can either replay the first two missions using some or all of the advanced rules, or you can go on to the third mission.

Blood Berets is one of the excellent Warzone/Mutant Chronicles board games that appeared in the early 1990's. As pointed out in another review, Blood Berets uses the 20 sided dice mechanism of the Warzone Table Top Game rather than that of the much-beloved Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel game. This aside, Blood Berets is a pleasant blast from the past - an engaging shoot-em-up set in the richly detailed Mutant Chronicles universe suitable for kids of all ages. You can fight it out in the steaming jungles of Venus or engage in a classic dungeon crawl through the caves beneath the surface. The 16 plastic miniatures included are very nice. The green Blood Berets are in the classic open-armed stance of the 1990's. The Dark Legionnaires are dynamically posed and would mix well with their plastic confreres from the Siege of the Citadel game. The Nepharites are actually rather detailed and elegant sculpts for one-piece plastic figures from their period. This 20+ year old game arrived shrink-wrapped with all the components in fine physical shape. The only untoward issue I encountered was a strong odor of mildew in the box and the foam wrapping material in the shipping box. Airing and liberal applications of Lysol to the otherwise very useful foam storage tray in the box have largely eliminated this issue. This game is a must have for Warzone/Mutant Chronicles fans. It is also an excellent choice for anyone looking for a well-produced, accessible and action-oriented sci-fi miniatures game.
