Hobby Casting Metal

Description

Model Metal (54% Lead / 11% Tin / 35% Bismuth) is our best casting metal. It contains bismuth which reduces the melting temperature and shrinkage. While most alloys shrink while solidifying, Model metal does not. Can be used in rubber, plaster and metal moulds.

Ingot length 122 mm, Width 25mm, weight 125gr

Melts at 138°C (280°F).

Cast at 300-370°C (572F-700F).

Melts on electric cooker at maximum. For very fine detailed casting we recommend our Solder Melting Pot which can bring up temperature up higher.

Shipping Notice: Due to problems with Australian airport security repeatedly returning metal, Please ONLY use TNT shipping for Australia.

Please contact northernsmelters instead if you want to source this metal in Australia.

Numbers of figures per bar of metal:

  • 25-28mm scale = 10 single unmounted figures
  • 40mm scale = 5 single unmounted figures
  • 54mm scale = 3 single unmounted figures

All our casting metal come in same size bars. So above chart is valid for Standard, 5Star and Model Metal.

    Model Metal

I have been casting with Model Metal dor over 10 years now. I love the amount of detail it is able to capture and the low shrinkrate it has. Castings made with it can be easily copperplated (and then nickel and goldplated). I love this metal :) Marc

    Model metal

Although I purchased the model medal, I have used it for making other moulds and find it most satisfactory for moulding.

    Mode Metal

Excellent product. Easy to work with. I mainly cast 54mm figures (Seven Years' War), and the modelmetal is perfect for highlighting details. Abour Price August : very fast delivery and reactive vendors. Super !

    model metal

I bought just the right amount tho' I could not determine from the website how big the bars were. They cast very well, despite some amateurish air bubbles, but on recasting with a longer time on the stove, they were pretty good. I was making sideframe castings for tram trucks in high temperature rubber moulds.

    OUTSTANDING

I have other fragile, highly detailed molds and this is a great metal to use. I'm not to worried about burning out these molds with this metal and even more important it gives excellent details.
