PA12715: American Civil War Deluxe Chess Starter Kit

The American Civil War themed chess moulds include the Union (PA715) and Confederate (PA716) sides in a set of six vulcanised rubber moulds. The pieces will be approximately 54mm scale when cast.

This starter kit contains:

• Union's chess side moulds and Confederate's chess side moulds (total 6 moulds that can cast the king, queen, bishop, knight, rook and pawn for both sides)
• Casting ladle. This is where the liquid metal goes and where you are pouring from.
  
• 2 metal clamps. These hold the assembled mould and boards together.
  
• 2 large support boards. These sandwich the mould and insulate it and spread the pressure from the clamps.
  
• 16 bars of model metal.
• Small pot of release agent. This is pure talcum powder. It is applied to the surface of the mould to allow air to escape and stop the metal sticking to the mould.
  
• Size 000 brush. This is a very fine brush for small details like buttons or eyes.
  
• Metal File for smoothing rough surfaces.
• Super Snipper for cutting off excess metal and in-gates.
• 2 packs of 11 acrylic paints (each pot 3 ml).
• 2 pots of primer (3ml each).
• a standard paint brush.
• painting and casting instructions.

Model metal contains a percentage of lead in the alloy. It consists of Lead, Tin and Bismuth.

History:

American Civil War 1861 - 1865 The Civil War was the culmination of four decades of intense sectional conflict and reflected deep seated differences between the North and the South. Underscoring sectional differences, the labor force in the South included nearly four million enslaved blacks. Although the slaveholding planter class formed a small minority of the population, it dominated Southern politics and society. Slaves were the largest single investment in the South, and the fear of slave unrest ensured the loyalty of nonslaveholders. The Missouri Compromise of 1820 temporarily settled the issue by establishing a line separating free and slaves territory. Conflict resumed, when the United States boundaries were extended westward to the Pacific. In 1850 California was admitted as a free state and Utah and New Mexico were added as two new territories. When the war ended 620,000 had been killed, and many more wounded. The war settled the question of the permanance of the Union. The war expanded the authority of the federal government. The U.S. Congress enacted much of the legislation to which the South had objected.
