A Metal Clamp is used to hold the mould and support boards together securely. It is recommended to have 2 clamps for most moulds but some larger mould particullary if you use Modelmetal might require 4 clamps. If you buy 4 you pay for 3. Clamp opens approximately 4 cm.

I've tried other clamps, notably plastic ones, but these are still the best if applied to the mould correctly, and cheaper too if you buy a few.

I recently bought a new clamp to supplement the one I have owned for the last 30 years. I was making do with a modern plastic clamp but they were either too powerful and compressed the mould too much or too weak that I didn't trust it. The original is still the best.
A good product but sometimes they loose their strength after only 6 months
I prefer using these clamps to the elastic bands, although I suppose its just personal preferance. I see some videos with 4 clamps, but I make do with 2. Clamp near the edges of most moulds usually works well, or if the mould has two or three holes, move the clamps around between pouring in a different hole. Only thing to note is that they can be a little strong for small children to use, but since adult supervision is needed anyway, the point is probably moot. For big moulds you can use a few elastic bands to further secure the mould along with these clamps.
I had a Prince August clamp for year and to add to that one I decided to buy another 2 to be sure to have a good grip on the moulds. I was though surprised to see that even though they are very strong all the strength seem to be concentrated on the tip of the clamp leaving parts of the mould a bit loose. Response: The clamps are supposed to have the pressure on the tips. If you look at our videos on casitng you will see their application. If you prefer an overall tightness then use thick elastic bands instead (or in conjunction with the clamps.) regards, Michael.
