Hobby Casting Metal

Description

5 Star metal (94.5% Tin / 3% Zinc / 2.5% Antimony) is lead free. However it is more difficult to cast and we recommend that you vent all moulds.

Melts at 230° C (446° F). Cast at 320-400°C.  For fine details castings we recommend that you melt this alloy in our Solder Melting Pot which can bring up the temp to 400c. Domestic cookers will only go up to 310-320c.

Ingot length 122 mm. Width  25mm, weight 85gr  The volume of the bar is the same as our other alloys. As the alloy is lighter, you get more figures per kilo.

Webmaster Response: Did you melt the ingates and sprues again after casting. A single bar of metal should cast between 4 to 5 normal 40mm figures (not mounted ones) or 8 to 9 25mm figures (not mounted). It seems to me that you either did not melt the metal ingates afterwards or you are referring to mounted figures in some way. Basically weigh the figures and see the difference. An average 5 star bar is about 80 grams. There will be a small loss from normal use (contamination from powdered ingates remelting, air interaction on surface of melting metal), but that should be all.

    Problem with the shipment

Hi, I have received my tin bar... The metal is fine, but I have to pay 38CHF (30€) of custom fees. Next time when you ship something in Swiss, don't put a declared value on the packet... __________________________ Next time give us a clear instruction and we will do the best to follow it.
