Description

These are three 28mm scale metal 1st Century Roman Officers, a Primus Pilus, Signifer and Tribune. You cannot buy moulds for these figures. You can acquire rubber moulds of the legionaries.

During the 1st Century CE the Roman Empire was probably at its most iconic in terms of attire and tactics. Legions were huge blocks of legionaries, usually up to 5500 in number. With such a large group, there needed to be many types of officers and NCOs to keep order and discipline. The Primus Pilus was the most senior Centurion in the entire Legion and lead the first century of the first cohort. The Signifer was was the equivalent of a standard bearer and his job was not only to protect the cohort's standard from capture, but to carry it to inspire their men and also to help, due to its height, to direct the men visually in battle. There were usually six Tribunes responsible for commanding a Legion and they were semi-professional soldiers with political goals for their future careers. Five of the tribunes were called Tribuni angusticlavii and the chief tribune was called the Tribunus laticlavius.
