Description

The Napoleonic Wars (1803-15) were a series of wars declared against Napoleon's French Empire by opposing coalitions. As a continuation of the wars sparked by the French Revolution of 1789, they revolutionised European armies and played out on an unprecedented scale, mainly owing to the application of modern mass conscription. French power rose quickly as Napoleon's armies conquered much of Europe but collapsed rapidly after France's disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812. Napoleon's empire ultimately suffered complete military defeat resulting in the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in France.

This product has 3 moulds that can cast 3 separate 54mm scale metal soldiers. Some assembly may be required. Assembly can either require soldering or gluing parts together. Glue is not included.

The French army during 1809 comprised around 120 foot regiments each of which contained four battalions de guerre and a depot battalion. Each battalion de guerre consisted of four companies of Fusiliers, one of Grenadiers and one of Voltigeurs. Each company was officered by a captain, a lieutenant, a sous-lieutenant, a sergeant major and thirteen other N.C.O’s. Two drummers and 120 men completed the company. Many French regiments took part in the Peninsula campaign and prominent amongst those during the early stages of the war were the 70th and 86th regiments of foot.

The 70th Line regiment was formed in 1803 as a result of reforms to the old demi-brigade system. During the early part of the Peninsula war it fought at both Vimiero and Corunna.

This product is not suitable for children under the age of 14.
