Description

Vikings were very fond of axes and round shields in combat. Axes were superb for close combat, and caused more damage to enemy shields and armour than swords. However they were usually slower, or lacked piercing power of a sword tip. The round shield was wooden with a metal or leather rim. It had a metal Boss in its center that could be used to punch out at an attacking enemy, turning a defensive weapon into an offensive weapon, and that was the Viking style without doubt. They were normally painted with bright variegated colours, often quartered in two different colours or having variants of cross motifs painted upon them.

This is our most popular mould in the Viking range. It is a perfect depiction of the Warrior as he charges towards his enemy, ready to hack and slash his way to glory, and loot.

Each ingot of metal should cast about 4 of these figures. These are fully round figures so they can take slightly more metal than expected.

Viking Painting Guide:

B = Base, W = Wash, HD = Hi-Dry, BD = Base Dry.

All figures are first undercoated in white paint and all the other colours are painted over this.

    This figure casts well but like all the smaller scale figures you'll get a higher success rate if you cut air channels (the leaflet tells how to do this if you've not done it before). The arm and shield are moulded so that they will only fit on the body in one position which means they don't slip when you are gluing them on - very useful. Detail is very good and it paints up nicely. The only point to watch is the shield. When separating this from the sprue, if you don't get the cutters in exactly the right position, you'll cut off part of the shield rim and ruin the casting. Use a file or a small saw is my advice.

    vIKING AXEMAN MOULD.

    The mould was a not finished as normal for Prince August moulds. I had to cut out a segment of rubber from the entrance hole . Wasted some considerable time in establishing the problem. However detail is very good and I am pleased with the results.

    Good

    The definition is perfect, but can be better if in the same mould there is also the arm with a spear and a sword... To help us to create a great army in different poses ;-) Greetings from Italy
