Description

This starter kit contains all of the hobby casting accessories you will require (except file and ingate cutter/snipper), just add your chosen moulds and casting alloy, to start white-metal casting as a hobby. Note you will also need a heat source like a domestic cooker to melt the metal.

Contents:
  • Casting ladle. This will hold the liquid metal and let you pour it.
  • Small pot of release powder. This is a talcum powder that is applied on the surface of the mould to allow air to escape and prevent metal sticking to the mould.
  • 3 sets of different sized support boards (suitable for any mould). Boards sandwich the rubber moulds to help spread the pressure from the clamps.
  • 2 mould clamps. These go on either side of the assembled mould and boards to hold them together.

    Good except for clamps

    The clamps let this set down. The rest of the kit would be 5 starts, but the clamps don't hold the mould together - so metal leaks out. I bought some different clamps which work a treat. Prince August Response: Our clamps are designed to hold the mould together with the right pressure. If there is any leakage it is due to the poor placement of the clamps or the need for adjustment in how many figures are being cast at once. Using clamps that are stronger can impact the quality of the castings as they can restrict the flow of metal and air too much.

    This kit is exactly what I wanted so I could begin casting Prince August figures. Its a use full and necessary item. I preferred to buy the accessories and moulds separately, but it doesn't matter if you buy a starter kit with moulds included or not as long as you get the ladle ,clamps ect. They are what you need for the hobby.
